If Emiliano Martinez is available, Celtic and Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should be all over it.

Rangers have already kicked off their summer spending and Celtic won’t be far behind their Old Firm rivals.

It remains to be seen what sort of players both sides want to improve their team, but it’s clear that both Celtic and Rangers should be in the market for a goalkeeper – and Emiliano Martinez is a cracking option.

Allan McGregor had a great season back at Ibrox, but he’ll be 38 in January, while Hoops’ star Scott Bain needs somebody younger than Craig Gordon – who turns 37 in December – as competition for his gloves.

If rumours are believed, Arsenal might have little use for 26-yea-old Martinez, with reports from Italy indicating that the Gunners want Ionut Radu [FC Inter News].

That would open the door for an exit from North London. A lot of clubs will be in the race, but Celtic and Rangers should be, too.

Long term, both Glasgow rivals need a young keeper like the Argentine, who impressed on loan in the Championship last term.

He earns around £20,000 per week with Arsenal [Spotrac], which puts him in the light Blues’ and Celtic’s bracket.

In fact, the Hoops did reportedly want him 18 months ago [The Record], but then-manager Brendan Rodgers wound up signing Bain.

A renewal of interest wouldn’t go amiss and Gerrard should be right there challenging Neil Lennon.
