Rangers and Celtic would have to stump up £9 million if they wanted to bring Clermont goal-machine Adrian Grbic to Scotland this summer, according to MaLigue2.

Even in a market beset by financial uncertainty, a man who has been labelled the ‘new Juninho’ due to his fearsome ability from a dead-ball was never likely to go for cheap.

Grbic has shot to fame with 17 goals for a promotion-chasing Clermont this season. And, now that the Ligue 2 season has been brought to a premature conclusion by the LFP, there is a very good chance that he has represented his current employers for the very last time.

TEAMtalk claims that Celtic and Rangers are interested in bringing the Austria U21 international to Glasgow.

But with Clermont demanding a hefty £9 million, a fee which has seemingly put him out of the reach of Ligue 1 outfit Brest (Le Telegramme), the chances of Grbic bringing his ‘god-given talent’ to Glasgow look about as slim as Pedro Caixinha returning to Ibrox to take Steven Gerrard’s job.

After all, that £9 million price-tag would force Celtic to make him their joint-most expensive signing of all time. Rangers, meanwhile, have not paid so much for a single player since Tore Andre Flo arrived in Scotland’s second city 20 years ago.

Then again, the Old Firm rivals could be in line for a big summer windfall. Odsonne Edouard and Alfredo Morelos will surely see some rather tempting offers come their way.

And if Celtic or Rangers do cash in on their top-scoring talisman, that £9 million fee for Grbic suddenly wouldn’t feel quite so prohibitive.
