Who is better? There’s only one way to find out – get Celtic and Rangers fans to debate on Twitter the merits of Olivier Ntcham and Carlos Pena.

Celtic and Rangers fans will always have something to disagree about. And it appears the match-winning performances of both Olivier Ntcham and Carlos Pena this weekend have kick-started a debate about which big-money midfield signing is better.

Celtic paid £4 million to bring 21-year-old Ntcham to Parkhead this summer from Manchester City, per the Daily Record. Meanwhile, Rangers made Mexican international Pena their most expensive signing in seven years, handing £2.5 million over to Chivas.

And while both players haven’t exactly been consistent for their new clubs, this weekend’s action showcased the best Ntcham and Pena have to offer.

Ntcham fired a long-range winner as Celtic edged out Dundee 1-0 at a tense Parkhead on Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Pena scored twice from midfield in Rangers’ impressive 3-0 win away to St Johnstone.

And while both are different players in style, Ntcham a powerful defensive midfielder and Pena something of a ‘second striker’, you can expect the merits of these marquee midfielders to be debated and discussed across the entire campaign. That is the inevitably by-product of a hefty price tag after all.

While Ntcham has been questioned by his own supporters of late following a disappointing run of performances, and Pena was pilloried after a dismal Old Firm derby display last month, at least Celtic and Rangers fans were given a reminder what all the fuss was about in the ninth round of fixtures.
