Linked with a move into the Parkhead dugout last summer, Henrik Larsson has been unveiled as the new manager of Helsingborgs after quitting Falkenbergs.
The 43-year-old was linked with the Hoops hot seat in the immediate aftermath of Neil Lennon’s departure but the former Bhoys favourite was keen to distance himself from the role, citing a lack of experience as one of his chief reasons for turning down the job offer from the club.
A move to Helsingborg represents a more straightforward challenge, with the club enjoying a dominant position in the history of the Swedish domestic game.
Larsson also possesses plenty of personal ties to the club, having played for Helsingborgs in two separate spells in 1992-93 and 2006-09.
The former Manchester United loanee leaves Falkenbergs in a solid position, having helped the newly-promoted Allsvenskan side maintain their top-flight status.
He faces a tough challenge to get Helsingborgs back to the level the fans expect though, following a season in which the club finished down in ninth.
Without a title since 2011, the role could be the ideal experience to help the Swede prepare for what many view as an inevitable move back to Scotland with Celtic – another of the clubs that helped the striker establish his reputation across the continent.
He will replace the locally-based Roar Hansen at the club in a move that could have fans of Barca, the Bhoys and even the Red Devils keeping a closer eye on the football being played over in Scandinavia.
