Celtic want Alistair Johnston and could make a move for the CF Montreal star after shining for Canada at the World Cup.

The Bhoys secured a signing on Wednesday as they snapped up defender Yuki Kobayashi from Vissel Kobe.

Kobayashi will arrive in January when his Vissel Kobe contract has come to an end.

Ange Postecoglou has though indicated that Celtic may have a couple of targets lined up for January and another one may be emerging.

Celtic want Alistair Johnston

The Scottish Sun claim that Celtic are keen on signing CF Montreal defender Alistair Johnson.

It’s stated that Celtic are weighing up an offer to sign Johnston in January with Ange Postecoglou understood to be a keen admirer.

Johnston, 24, only joined Montreal from Nashville SC earlier this year but has made a big impact.

Four goals and four assists in 33 games is a decent record for Johnston, who plays as a right wing back for his club.

Johnston has also racked up 31 caps for Canada though and started against Belgium on Wednesday night.

Canada were excellent but just couldn’t score as they lost 1-0 in a fascinating game.

Johnston lined up as a right-sided centre back in John Herdman’s three-man defence, showing off his versatility.

Celtic are now looking to lure Johnston to Glasgow and this may be an indication over Josip Juranovic’s future.

The Croatian star is attracting interest and Celtic may be lining up Johnston to come in and replace him at right back.

Hailed as ‘very intelligent’ by his former Nashville boss Gary Smith, Johnston could quickly leave Montreal despite only arriving earlier this year.

We can expect to see a number of Canada players attract interest of the back of the World Cup and it looks like Johnston is the first.
