Celtic have an opportunity to pull even further ahead of Rangers.

Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic’s march to the Scottish Premiership title last season was as dominant as it gets, going through the domestic season unbeaten and winning a treble.

So it hardly seems fair they are set to receive a new £30 million windfall, but that exactly what’s coming their way after qualifying for the Champions League group stages.

It may have seemed like a desperate hope, but rivals Rangers needed them to falter at the qualification stages.

Celtic are already vastly superior to a Rangers side still struggling to find their feet under Pedro Caixinha.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha gestures during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hibernian at Ibrox Stadium on August 12, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Giving them an extra £30 million is not exactly necessary, but it is hard earned and just reward for their outstanding progress under Brendan Rodgers.

Catching Celtic up this season already looks a tall order for Rangers, who after just three games have fallen five points behind the reigning champions.

Celtic’s windfall will only lead to another next season, and make it even harder for Rangers to get close.

Right now you would be hard pressed to make a case that Celtic will not make their eventual target of reaching 10 title in a row.
