The talented winger seems to have fallen out of favour at Ashton Gate.
With Bristol City hovering just above the Championship relegation zone following their 2-1 defeat away at Leeds United, it seems baffling that manager Lee Johnson continues to overlook Jamie Paterson’s talents.
Paterson has been an unused substitute in four out of the last five matches, and the one time he did come on – earlier in February against Rotherham United – the Robins claimed their first win since December with a 1-0 victory.
The 25-year-old’s last start for Bristol City came away at Paterson’s former club Nottingham Forest, where the winger was largely quiet in a 1-0 defeat.
However, with star striker Tammy Abraham potentially spending a lot of time on the sidelines with a thigh injury, it makes little sense to not pick players who have the ability to change a game in your favour – something Paterson has done wherever he has been.
It is tough to see where Bristol City’s next point is coming from as their next three fixtures read Fulham at home, Newcastle United away and then Aston Villa away.
However, after that run they have a relegation six-pointer against Burton Albion at Ashton Gate which is a must win. In such circumstances, players like Paterson simply have to be on the pitch.
