The former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday man is currently on trial with Cardiff City, but is not expected to be offered a deal.
One piece of news that raised a few eyebrows and garnered attention was the fact that former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday man Lewis McGugan is on trial at Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City, but apparently will not be offered a deal, as reported by Wales Online.
The 28-year-old has endured a horrific time at Hillsborough and did not play a single minute for Carlos Carvalhal’s side in the 2016/17 season, leading to the midfielder cancelling his contract with Wednesday and looking to find another club.

Despite being on a two-week trial, it does not seem likely that McGugan will be given a contract, which allows other teams to come into the fray and try to snap up the midfielder, who still has an awful lot to give at Championship level and could be a valuable asset if a manager knows how to make him work.
There is no reason why that manager cannot be Harry Redknapp at Birmingham City, as the Blues could do with McGugan’s spark in the middle of the park and his set-piece abilities, along with the excellent long shot that the former Watford man has in his locker.
Birmingham actually wanted McGugan’s services when he was at Nottingham Forest back in 2012, as the Reds slipped into a relegation battle under Steve Cotterill’s watch, but Forest refused to do business of any kind with Chris Hughton’s then side.
Given Redknapp gets the best out of players on a regular basis, someone as experienced and proven as McGugan – on a free – could work out in Birmingham’s favour on quite a big scale.
