Swansea City boss Paul Clement believes that January signing Tom Carroll will have a point to prove against his former club Tottenham Hotspur when the two face each other on Wednesday, as reports BBC Sport.

It’ll be the first time that Carroll will face Spurs since making the switch from White Hart Lane to the Liberty Stadium in the winter transfer window, ending his 16 year affiliation with the club in the process.

The 22-year-old, who made 56 appearances for Spurs, scoring three goals, is still a popular figure with both fans and players at White Hart Lane, and still keeps in regular contact with his former teammates as reports the Evening Standard.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Clement joked that Carroll would be dropped, before claiming he was bound to have some extra fire in his belly going into the match, however the move was the right one for him to make in the January window.

“I think that’s normal, he’s been at the club since eight years of age,” Clement said, as reported by BBC Sport. “Tottenham has been a massive part of his life. I’m sure he’s really looking forward to the game.

“Maybe I’ll rest him for West Ham, what do you think?

“A point to prove? He’s a good player. I think Tottenham thought he was a good player. They kept him for a long, long time, he’s played a good amount of first team games. It was the right move for Tom to move someplace where he could play more regularly, and he’s certainly making good progress here at Swansea.”

Swansea are still in grave danger of relegation from the Premier League, despite Clement’s turnaround since he took the job, which has seen the Swans lose just once at home under his tenure.

As is stands, Swansea are just one point above the drop zone, and with Burnley and Leicester playing before the Swans take to the pitch against Spurs, a good result could be crucial for Clement’s side.
