Newcastle were keen admirers of Abraham, who was on loan at Bristol City last year, but have missed out to Swansea City.

Newcastle United have lost the race to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, with the 19-year-old striker set to sign a new deal worth £50k a week at Stamford Bridge before signing for Swansea City on loan for the 2017/18 season, as reported by the Telegraph.

Abraham had an exceptional year on loan at Bristol City, with the 19-year-old bagging 26 goals in 48 games in all competitions for the Robins and practically kept them up in the Championship on his own, scoring 23 out of their 60 league goals.

His electric form prompted heavy interest from Celtic, Brighton and Hove Albion, Newcastle and Swansea City, with the Swans managing to convince Abraham to come to Wales for a season before the other two made a move, and despite their interest, Abraham has stuck to his word.

Chelsea see Abraham as part of their long term plans, hence the new deal, and he will now link up with a former Stamford Bridge coach in Paul Clement, rather than join up with a former Chelsea manager in Rafael Benitez at Newcastle.

The news will come as a blow to Newcastle who, despite scoring 85 goals last season, need someone in their forward line who can add healthy competition and find a way to get double figures in the league, which is something Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Aleksander Mitrovic haven’t done in their spells in the Premier League.

Swansea, on the other hand, will be ecstatic as they can look forward to utilising one of the best prospects in the country in the Premier League, and they will be hoping the 19-year-old’s goals will keep them away from relegation danger.
