23-year-old Romelu Lukaku is closing in as Everton’s all time Premier League goalscorer.

When Everton play Sunderland in their next fixture, it’ll take just two more goals from Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku for him to become Everton’s joint most prolific Premier League goalscorer.

The 23-year-old has scored 59 Premier League goals for the Toffees in just 128 games, a staggeringly impressive achievement considering that Duncan Ferguson – Everton’s leading Premier League scorer – hit 61 in 239.

The other strikers on Everton’s Premier League goalscoring list frankly don’t come close. Kevin Campbell comes nearest with an impressive 45 in 145 games, while Aiyegbeni Yakubu plundered in 25 in 82, but neither really compare.

It’s a similar story with other strikers. Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney scored 15 in 67 for the Toffees, Louis Saha got 27 in 97, and Francis Jeffers got 18 in 66 – however, all of these players have been left in Lukaku’s shadow.

Beyond this season, it would be surprising to see Lukaku remain at Goodison Park, as a host of teams who can guarantee Champions League football every season will be keen to sign him.

When he eventually departs however, Lukaku will probably leave regarded as Everton’s greatest Premier League striker, a player who will have set the bar for future Everton forwards for years to come.
