The Canaries’ 5-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday leaves their play-off hopes hanging by an extremely thin thread.

The pressure on Norwich City manager Alex Neil cranked up another notch following the Canaries’ 5-1 thrashing to sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday, taking the gap between the two clubs to nine points.
It now looks very likely that the Canaries won’t be getting promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt, barring a monumental collapse by Wednesday and a severe upturn in form by Norwich.
Despite being the Championship’s second highest goalscorers, Norwich’s issues lie at the back, with the club having the third worst defence in the league and have recently come unstuck against teams they really should be beating.
Rotherham United will be going down to League One this season and Burton Albion could well join them, yet both beat City 2-1, while another team who could be joining Rotherham in Wigan Athletic claimed a 2-2 draw against the Canaries.

The question is, what do the Norwich board do, and when do they decide? On the basis of Neil’s promotion with the Canaries in 2015, they may stick with him – at least until the season’s end.
However, given the nature of the finance at stake, the board may decide that missing out on at least the play-offs is unacceptable, meaning Norwich could well have a new man in the dugout. Only time will tell.
