The on-loan Liverpool defender has been imperious for the Eagles, but it seems Palace will have to finish the season without him.
Crystal Palace will head into their crucial final two matches of the season without the services of key man Mamadou Sakho, with the on-loan Liverpool defender ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, as reports The Independent.
The 27-year-old centre-back has been a revelation at Selhurst Park since arriving in the January transfer window, and despite featuring in just eight matches, has been nominated for Palace’s Player of the Year award.
However, Sakho sustained a knee injury in the Eagles’ 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and speaking ahead of Palace’s crucial encounter with Hull City at the weekend, manager Sam Allardyce confirmed that Sakho won’t be featuring again this season.
“Not really, I don’t think so,” Allardyce said when asked about whether Sakho would feature again this season, as reports The Independent. “It won’t be long enough to think he’ll be fit for Old Trafford.”
The news could not come at a worse time, with Palace’s next fixture against Hull City essentially turning into a do or die clash. If Palace avoid defeat, they will be mathematically safe from relegation. However if Palace lose and if Swansea City secure a positive result against Sunderland, the Eagles’ Premier League status will go down to the final day.
Given that Palace will face an away trip to Manchester United on the final day of the season, Allardyce will no doubt want the job wrapped up and done before then – but he will have to do so without his best defender.
