Manager has performed admirably at Blackburn since arriving in February, despite relegation.

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is sticking to his word that he will be going nowhere anytime soon by penning a new two-year-deal at Ewood Park, which has the option to be extended by a further 12 months, as reported by the club’s official website.

The former Celtic, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion manager was tasked in February with the seemingly impossible job of keeping Rovers in the Championship following the shambolic Owen Coyle reign, and almost pulled it off with Blackburn eventually going down on the final day on goal difference.

Mowbray lost just three out of his 15 games in charge, but Blackburn fans were very worried that in the aftermath of relegation, the 53-year-old – who won round a lot of Rovers’ supporters – would leave the club mere months after arriving.

However, Mowbray flew to India to meet the club’s controversial owners in the Venky’s once the season was finished, and from that decided that he would be sticking around, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph, and that commitment is now in writing following the new deal.

The news is a massive boost for Blackburn, who have a great shot of returning to the Championship at the first attempt with Mowbray in charge, and while relegation would have been a horrible experience for their fans, better times could well be on the horizon.

Blackburn finished their Championship season with 51 points – 22 of which were acquired with Mowbray in charge, despite overseeing just 15 out of a possible 46 matches while being thrown in the deep end – but ultimately, it wasn’t enough to keep the club up.
