The Blues, who have not won since the end of February, could well drop into League One with two games to play.

If the realisation had not hit Birmingham City that they could actually get relegated, a quick look at the league table following their 1-0 defeat to rivals Aston Villa would have hit harder than a right hook from Anthony Joshua.

Gabby Agbonlahor’s goal has left Birmingham just two points above the drop zone now, and new boss Harry Redknapp’s prediction of four points being enough, as reported by BBC Sport, could now spectacularly backfire.

For a club that has not won since February while only picking up two wins in 25 games now, expecting them to claim four points from fourth placed Huddersfield Town and a Bristol City side who have won three out of their last four looks incredibly ambitious to say the least.

Birmingham have been shocking beyond belief since the turn of the year, and while they may be saved by Blackburn Rovers failing to win in their remaining fixtures against Aston Villa and Brentford, if Blackburn won both and Birmingham claimed four points, Blackburn would most likely finish above Birmingham due to their much better goal difference.

Blackburn have only lost three out of their last 10 and keep grinding points out, so on current form, two draws from Rovers will keep them up as unless Redknapp works a miracle between now and the end of the season, Birmingham may not even claim another point this season.

In reality, it looks highly likely that – given Nottingham Forest have yet to hit the 50 point barrier – at least one team will survive with less than 50 points, but whether Birmingham will survive themselves is incredibly hard to predict.
