Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp has declared his interest in left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, whom he signed while at both Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

The 33-year-old left back has just finished his season with FC Metz but is out of contract with the French club, and made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side in the 2016/17 season, grabbing one assist.

However, there may be a slight issue for Redknapp when it comes to trying to sign Assou-Ekotto for a third time, as it appears that the former Cameroon international may be keen on embarking in a career in the porn industry, rather than remain in professional football.

Despite that, Redknapp has indicated that he will do what he can to try and tempt the player to St Andrews, and still believes that he can offer both Birmingham City and football as a whole a great deal of service, even if it is only for an additional 12 months.

“The only trouble is that he’s admitted he wants to be a pornstar,” Redknapp said when asked about whether he had any intentions of signing Assou Ekotto, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

“Maybe I can get another year out of him before he decides to do that. What a good player. He could well end up in the Birmingham colours next year, Benoit.”

Redknapp signed Assou-Ekotto from French club RC Lens in 2006 while in charge of Tottenham, and then signed him again in 2013 on a season-long loan while he was in charge of Queens Park Rangers.

Birmingham do need some reinforcements at the club following a diabolical season, which saw the Blues finish 19th – two points above the relegation zone – after securing their Championship safety on the final day of the season.
