We asked Arsenal fans yesterday who they would prefer in their midfield out of former captain Cesc Fabregas and Santi Cazorla. Here are the results…
Cesc Fabregas caused a real stir earlier this week when he indicated he was unhappy at the lack of playing time at Barcelona under new boss Tito Vilanova.
“I’ve always said that I play for the best team in the world, but I came here to compete, to learn and enjoy, not to sit wracking my brains.
“The manager knows what I can offer. But across the three positions that I can play, I am competing with the three best players in the world.
“I’m delighted to be a part of this team but when a coach tells me I have to go, I’ll go.”
A return to Arsenal? Cesc still loves the club which gave him a chance, and still speaks very highly of them. It is hard to imagine him playing for any other Premier League side, and after his time as captain failed without a trophy, he will still feel like he has unfinished business.
Except Arsenal have a new Spanish midfield maestro nowadays, and we’re not talking about Mikel Arteta, rather their star summer signing Santi Cazorla, who helped destroy Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
So we asked the theoretical question – who would you rather have? Fabregas or Cazorla?

A decisive decision in favour of their new midfielder. Here is a look at a few of the comments posted by Arsenal supporters in response to our question, ‘Would you swap Cazorla for Fabregas?’:
“Fabregas was great but Arsenal are a changed side. We are a better ‘team’ which works harder. For me Fabregas went missing in alot of big games. Cazorla is more aggressive and better at turning a player, probably more suited to fabregas. Fabregas is a great playmaker, not leader and i honestly couldn’t see him fitting into this side. Fabregas had his chance to be loyal and fight for a cause instead he went on strike as Captain creating a bad atmosphere. Ultimately i’ll remember him for that after trying to build a team around him for 5 years…..”
“I can not forget that Fabregas left us when we needed him most. What would u do with a captain that abandons his ship in the middle of the ocean? I leave the final decisions to Werger in him we trust.”
“no chance, carzola is a fighter, imagine having them both though!! what dream that would be!”
“Cesc. Over the last 5 years in the premier league, even though he wasn’t in the last season and missed half the games of the one before with injury, he STILL tops the chart for most chances created over the last 5 years in the premier league. phenomenal”
And yes that’s just it, the dream partnership of Fabregas and Cazorla in the middle could still happen. Add Wilshere in there too and who knows what Arsenal could do? Right now, in the here and present, it is a ringing endorsement for the Gunners’ newest midfielder that the majority of fans would rather have him than Fabregas.
