Shaun Wright-Phillips has stated that Sam Allardyce’s comments have ‘caught him off guard’ after he became Leeds United manager.

Upon taking to the Leeds hotseat, the 68-year-old made sure to stick his chest out like never before.

Sam Allardyce claimed that nobody in the Premier League – not even Pep Guardiola – knows what he doesn’t know in the game.

From Bolton to Blackburn, Allardyce has mainly managed teams that are considered middle of the road or those trying to fight the drop.

Whilst Leeds are a massive club, they are fighting relegation, with Allardyce’s comments leaving many, including Wright-Phillips, surprised, as he told Premier League Productions (03/05/23 at 7:35 pm).

“It caught me off guard,” said Wright-Phillips. “I heard a few quotes from social media, but I didn’t really read too much into it until just now.

“He has done what he has done in the game. He was great in his time. But I think football has come so far and evolved so much.

“Knowing he has got Man City at the weekend (it is quite brave).”

ALLARCYE’S CONFIDENCE

Well, one way you can look at Allardyce’s comments is that he is oozing confidence for a team that’s lacking every bit of it.

If he talks the talk like that with his Leeds players, then it will take the pressure off them and make them believe that they can survive.

Well, they are going to need every bit of that because it’s only a small matter of Manchester City at the weekend.
