Jamie Redknapp has admitted to Sky Sports during Liverpool’s League Cup clash with Arsenal that he was shocked that Jurgen Klopp’s side went and signed Diogo Jota this summer.
Liverpool brought in Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, as they strengthened their attack.
Jota has shown himself to be a real threat at Wolves over a number of seasons.
But Redknapp admits that he didn’t see a move to Liverpool as a possibility for the Portuguese forward.
“To be honest it caught me by surprise,” Redknapp said. “If you looked at the players Liverpool were trying to get in and you had said Jota at the start of the year I don’t think that would have been one anyone’s radar.
“But I think Liverpool are so astute in their signings. They look at players and what they can bring, how they press, goals, assists, they look at everything so you have to trust what they do.”

Jota has already made a bright start at Anfield since joining, after opening his goalscoring account last week.
The new recruit scored for Liverpool in their 3-1 Premier League victory over Arsenal after coming off the bench, but wasn’t quite as effective last night.
Liverpool failed to score against the Gunners, as they ultimately lost on penalties against Mikel Arteta’s side.
Jota is now likely to return to the bench for Liverpool’s game at the weekend, which comes against Aston Villa.
