Simon Jordan has claimed that if Leeds United weren’t a Premier League club, then ‘pound-for-pound’, they would be the best club to buy, as he told talkSPORT.

The former Crystal Palace owner was asked which current non-Premier League team is best to buy?

Of course, the Whites are now in England’s top-flight after earning promotion back last season following a near two-decade absence.

Despite troubles this term, they should drag themselves over the line and get this injury-ravaged season out of the way.

But Jordan made it clear that if the above question was asked a number of years ago, then ‘categorically’ he would have picked Leeds, which their fans will love.

“I would have said Leeds,” said Jordan. “Categorically Leeds, when they were outside of the Premier League.

“But Leeds should be, unless they get themselves into trouble this season which I think they will narrowly avoid, should be up, up and away.

“If I was going back a year or two. I would have said Leeds all day.

“It’s the clubs that have the vitality, the energy, the desire and a galvanising fan base.”

Well, for far too long, the Yorkshire outfit were one of the biggest sleeping giants outside of the top-tier.

They have put an end to that, and after some stability, it will be interesting how far they push up the table.

The Championship is still littered with massive clubs, no bigger than Nottingham Forest.

Steve Cooper’s side are currently sitting in third place and if they win their remaining matches, then they will earn promotion back after over 20 years away.
