Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United should bid for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane if they want to catch Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
The former Arsenal star believes that if Manchester United have to pay £150 million for Kane, then they should cough up the cash for the Tottenham and England international striker.
United are reportedly looking for a new striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
And, according to Sky Sports pundit, Kane, 29, is the one who could help United catch city rivals City.
Paul Merson wants Manchester United to bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane
Merson wrote: “In an age where clubs spend money for fun and world-class centre-forwards are a rarity, I would find it crazy if ManchesterUnited did not break the bank for Harry Kane.
“You can look all around the world, rack your brains and round up every scout within your network and the answer is right there in front of you. There is nobody that comes close to Kane that is currently available.

“If United ever want to catch Manchester City, they’ve got to go and get Kane. Everybody wants a striker and is searching far and wide but the best centre-forward is staring everybody in the face.
“He plays for a team in Tottenham that are going to win absolutely nothing and surely, sooner or later his head is going to be turned by a move again.
“I don’t know what I’m missing here. Even if he costs £150million and it’s a four or five-year contract, you are buying over 100 goals. Who else is going to give you that?”
Could a January transfer happen?
In our opinion, Manchester United are unlikely to be able to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
Yes, United are arguably the biggest club in England and are doing well under head coach Erik ten Hag at th moment, but there is no way that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will sanction a deal for Kane in the middle of the season.
No way.
Kane is the best and most important player at Tottenham, and without him, Conte’s side will really struggle.
Moreover, Conte himself may not want to stay at Spurs if Levy sells Kane.
And let’s not forget that Tottenham are challenging for the Premier League top four this season and have also progressed to the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League.
