Many current and former tennis players tend to pick up golf as a hobby.

There are some crossovers between the core skills needed to play both sports, including hand-eye coordination, timing, and rhythm.

Legends such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have all taken to the golf course since calling it a day on their professional tennis career.

So too have current players such as former French Open finalist Casper Ruud, who recently ranked the top five golfers on the ATP Tour.

Casper Ruud ranks the best golfers in men’s tennis currently

When asked to pick his top five in an interview with Quality Shot Tennis, Ruud said: “Sascha [Alexander Zverev] is pretty good. I had a fun game with him and Carlos [Alcaraz] at the Laver Cup this year.

“I would maybe put [Jannik] Sinner at five, just from what I have seen. Sorry Jannik. I would say Sascha and Carlos are an even two and three.

“Number four, I would say… I think [Alexei] Popyrin plays quite a bit. And then, in all humbleness, I will put myself at number one.

“I think I would be confident taking [Sinner] out for a round and winning that round, but he’s improving a lot.

“I think it is fun to see a lot of tennis players enjoy playing golf. There are similarities [to tennis]. When you hit that one shot that feels perfect, it’s the best feeling in the world.”

Casper Ruud said he wants to play golf with Andy Murray

When asked if he and Murray had been for a round of golf, Ruud said: “I have not, we have talked golf and I have seen his swing.

“Maybe this is private information, but he said he built a simulator in his house, so he is practicing a lot.

“I don’t [have a simulator], but I wish to have one in the future. I wish to play with Andy. I hope we can tee it up sometime soon. It would be fun.”

Murray has spoken about his love for golf a lot since retiring, and recently revealed on The Romesh Ranganathan Show that his dream pro to caddie for would be Scottish countryman Robert MacIntyre.
