The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been linked with a summer exit but for £12million Spurs should consider alternatives.
According to a report from Talk Sport, Borussia Monchengladbach are preparing a £12million bid for Tottenham Hotspur forward Vincent Janssen, but cashing in on the cheap is the last thing Spurs should be doing this summer.
If Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino sees no place in his squad for the Dutchman next season, a loan move would be the best option, allowing Janssen to play regularly elsewhere and potentially rediscover his best form in the process.
After all, if Tottenham cash in and suddenly the 23-year-old returns to the kind of form that earned him a move to North London in the first place, Pochettino will be left with egg on his face.
It is worth remembering just how young Janssen is, and the need for some players to settle in their new surroundings before playing to their full potential.
If Tottenham sign another striker this summer and determine that Janssen would be a bit-part player at best, a loan move to Monchengladbach would allow the German side to secure their target without digging into their coffers, while Spurs can give the Dutchman another year to prove himself, albeit elsewhere.
Janssen’s form at AZ Alkmaar showed what he is capable of, and while not all Eredivisie exports prove to be successful in England, selling this one on for a £5million loss just 12 months after his arrival would be the wrong move.
Either Tottenham keep him and allow him more time to prove his worth, or they loan him out in the hope that he comes good.
The worst that could happen is that they sell him a year on, and if he excels in Germany Tottenham could at least look to recoup what the initially spent if not slightly more.
