Tony Cascarino has suggested Liverpool should make a summer move for Olivier Giroud.

The France international has struggled for regular football since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea but on Tuesday he reminded Europe of his ability.

Giroud, who joined the Blues in an £18 million deal from Arsenal three years ago, scored a sublime overhead kick as the Londoners beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last night.

Liverpool may and probably should sign a number nine this summer because there are games when Roberto Firmino struggles in a big way on the goalscoring front, having scored six in 35 games this season.

And Cascarino feels that Giroud – who turns 35 in the summer – would certainly be a good fit for the reigning Premier League champions.

He told talkSPORT when asked if he’d have him at Liverpool: “Absolutely. Yeah I think there’s very few who can do the Roberto Firmino role. At 35 years old, he’d do a great job. I still think there’s a year or two in him. He reminds me a little bit of Teddy Sheringham.”

Giroud would be a good fit for anybody in the Premier League because being a striker who isn’t reliant on pace, the aging process isn’t going to be detrimental for his ability to score goals in this division.

Thing is, he’ll also want to play regular football because he’s that type of personality and Liverpool – who also have Diogo Jota in the ranks – probably wouldn’t be able to offer him that next term.
