Would Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur next summer?
The former Celtic man also seems to have suggested that Spurs should sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez next summer.
Sanchez is one of the best players in the Premier League and for Arsenal, but the forward is out of contract at the Gunners at the end of the season.
Back in the summer of 2001, Arsenal sign Sol Campbell on a free transfer following his departure from Tottenham at the end of the 2000-01 season.
The former England international defender took his game to the next level at Arsenal and helped the Gunners win the Premier League twice during his first spell at the North London club.
Cascarino wrote in The Times: “That’s what Tottenham have to do to move to the next level: pull off a transfer that really makes people sit up and take notice.
“Think of Sol Campbell. He had every club in the world chasing him — and he signed for Arsenal. It embarrassed Spurs.
“Harry Kane and Dele Alli are widely known, but the final part of the jigsaw is adding one of the world’s top-ten players, a gladiator player. That is the type of thing the very biggest clubs do.
“Think of Manchester United signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, or the massive statement that Manchester City made by signing Carlos Tévez from United.
“People underestimate the effect that sort of thing has across the world. It might sound mad, but imagine if they signed Alexis Sánchez from Arsenal.”
Sanchez is a world-class footballer, and the Chile international forward would certainly enhance the quality of the current Tottenham side.
In fact, the 28-year-old former Barcelona star, who can also operate as a winger, is probably the only Arsenal player who will get into the current Spurs team.
However, it is hard to see Sanchez leaving the Gunners for Spurs next summer.
