Tony Cascarino has suggested in The Times that Stoke City need to play like Norwich City did under Paul Lambert and not like Aston Villa did under the Celtic legend.

The former Celtic and Villa striker made the comments following Stoke’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United away from home at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Monday evening.

The draw with the Hammers means that the Potters are now second from bottom in the league table with 28 points from 34 matches.

Lambert’s side are in serious danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Cascarino, who now works as a pundit for talkSPORT, has suggested how Celtic legend Lambert should set up his Stoke team to play – not like his team at Villa, but like his side at Norwich.

“I was hugely critical of Aston Villa’s cautious approach under Paul Lambert when they were fighting relegation and Stoke City have been similarly impotent with the same manager in charge,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.

“I remember Lambert was a breath of fresh air when his Norwich City team played bravely on the front foot and he needs to employ that policy if Stoke are to survive,” added Cascarino.

Tough task

Stoke are one of the favourites to go down from the Premier League, and at this stage of the season, it is hard to see them survive in the top flight of English football for the 2018-19 campaign.

The Potters are not playing well, and questions remain on the defence, as the 2018-19 Premier League campaign enters it final weeks.

Stoke will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Burnley at the bet365 Stadium in the Premier League.
