Tony Cascarino has claimed Liverpool could wind up losing the Premier League title to Manchester City by a full 10 points.

Liverpool have been brilliant this season and with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip back in defence, and the addition of Ibrahima Konate, they have a real chance of winning a second Premier League crown in two years.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side, who are four points ahead of the Reds right now after playing one game more, are also looking in imperious form and have won eight top-flight outings in succession.

And Cascarino claims that the Sky Blues are the team to beat this season, arguing that it’d be Liverpool’s greatest-ever achievement if they finish ahead of Guardiola’s outfit.

He told talkSPORT: “If Liverpool finish above City, I think it would be their biggest achievement in recent history because City are an exceptional team. My personal feeling, and I might be way out here, but I think Man City will win it by 10 points.

“I think it’ll be a major achievement if Liverpool can even keep pace with them, because I just can’t see Man City going into games and losing.”

Realistic?

Well, probably not, no.

There’s no real cause for Cascarino to predict that Liverpool will finish a minimum of 10 points behind the reigning champions.

Okay, so they’re the reigning champions, but Jurgen Klopp’s outfit could have easily won it last season if not for a freakishly-bad injury crisis on Merseyside.

As mentioned, they were without their three best central defenders – including Joe Gomez – for almost the entire campaign and they could and would have mounted a far more serious defence of their title at the time.
