Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier is not as good as West Ham United’s Declan Rice, suggests Tony Cascarino.

Declan Rice signs a new contract at West Ham United in Rush Green on December 28, 2018 in Romford, England.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has suggested in The Times that West Ham United youngster Declan Rice is better than Tottenham Hotspur ace Eric Dier.

Rice, who has played three times for the Republic of Ireland national football team, is a versatile footballer who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.

Dier is also versatile and can play as a defender or as a defensive midfielder, and the Tottenham star has earned 38 caps for the England national football team.

Former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland international striker Cascarino believes that Rice is better than Dier.

Cascarino wrote in The Times following Rice’s performance for West Ham against Southampton: “He is so composed, a master of simplicity who sits in front of the back four and refuses to give the ball away.

“The West Ham midfielder was impeccable in the first half, making two or three crucial interceptions, grabbing possession and then moving it on quickly. I think he is better than Eric Dier, who does a similar job for Tottenham Hotspur and England.

“It is no wonder that Rice has been chased by England as well as Ireland and bigger clubs will be looking at him, too. He is already such a huge talent.”

Promising talent

Rice is a hugely talented and promising young footballer who can only get better in the coming years.

West Ham have a real gem on their hands, and the 19-year-old could be hugely valuable to the London club in transfer fees in the next few years.

While Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham are aiming to finish in the top 10 of the Premier League table this season, Spurs are challenging for the league title.
