England urged not to select Tottenham’s Eric Dier.

Former footballer Tony Cascarino has urged England not to select Eric Dier against Belgium.
Gareth Southgate’s England have got their World Cup off to a terrific start, winning 2-1 against Tunisia and 6-1 against Panama.
Changes are expected for the final group game, with qualification for the last 16 already secured.

He said: “There has been talk of Southgate bringing in Eric Dier as extra protection in midfield against Belgium and in the knockout rounds but England’s manager should resist that temptation.
“Changing tactics and players sends the wrong message and suggests they are worried about the opposition. I’m still unsure about a back three but it is a system the team is used to and Jordan Henderson has been excellent. Keep attacking and keep the momentum going.”

England have a fine balance to strike, as giving players like Dier a chance to play will help morale and ensure they are ready for the moment their time comes in the knockout rounds.
Southgate will also need to be cautious that any of his first choice players do not pick up injuries or suspensions against Belgium which impede them in the knockout rounds.
