Tony Cascarino has criticised Tottenham Hotspur for their inconsistent Premier League performances this season.

Over the previous two seasons combined no team amassed more points than Spurs, but this season they sit outside the top four after 18 games played so far.

Ahead of the festive fixtures, Cascarino told The Times he feels the team have serious problems to solve.

Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur is dejected during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on August 20, 2017 in London, England.

Cascarino said: “They have fallen off a cliff. Getting beaten 4-1 by Manchester City will have hurt. Mauricio Pochettino has to select a team that will stand up to Burnley.

“Tottenham look like also-rans who are ill-disciplined when they don’t get their way. Dele Alli was a world-beater against Real Madrid, but hasn’t got close to that since.”

Tottenham’s weekend opponents Burnley currently sit above them in the table by one point after a superb start to the season.

A draw at Turf Moor would have then to be taken in context as not a terrible result, but a defeat would leave them seriously off the pace.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is regarded as one of the best managers in the country, and this dip in form is a challenge he must rebound from.

Their slide in the Premier League has been offset by outstanding Champions League performances, which saw them top their group ahead of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
