Tottenham earned an excellent 3-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has told TalkSPORT that he reckons Blues owner Roman Abramovich will be jealous of Tottenham Hotspur’s tight wage structure orchestrated by chairman Daniel Levy.
Abramovich, who has been at the Chelsea helm since taking over control in 2003, will have watched on as Spurs secured an impressive 3-1 win over his west London outfit at Stamford Bridge.
However, the Daily Mail claim Spurs’ highest-paid player is Harry Kane on £110,000 a week, while Chelsea have four players above that figure in the form of Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata, Cesc Fabregas and David Luiz.
Cascarino believes Russian supremo Abramovich will be jealous of the fact that Tottenham chairman Levy has manufactured a better side than Chelsea despite keeping a tight stronghold on the Spurs coffers.
“Chelsea have spent and had times with incredible sides,” Cascarino said. “But I think the owner, Roman [Abramovich], will look at them and think: ‘I’m paying double in wages that Tottenham do and spent a hell of a lot of money in the transfer market compared to Spurs – and they are better than us.'”
“Chelsea have spent a lot of money. But Chelsea are going to look across at Tottenham with a lot of envy.”
Spanish striker Morata opened the scoring on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, but Spurs came from behind to earn all three points thanks to goals from Christian Eriksen and a brace from England playmaker Dele Alli.
It now sees Antonio Conte’s Premier League champions sit way down in fifth place, eight points adrift of the top four with seven Premier League matches still to play.
