Tony Cascarino thinks that Pepe should be worried about Willian’s arrival because he is the one who plays in the Brazilian’s favoured position on the right-hand side.

But the former striker did make it clear that it’s ‘competition’ and Pepe could ‘learn’ from Arsenal’s new recruit, as he told TalkSport (15/08/20 at 10:25 am).

Willian made the switch across London from Chelsea to Arsenal on Friday [BBC Sport] after his contract at Stamford Bridge had come to an end.

Cascarino praised Arsenal for their shrewd business in snapping up Willian and he thinks the player may well be able to deliver the goods for the Gunners for the next three seasons.

“Well, if you’re judging on how Willian has played in the last season then it’s a great decision to take a very experienced pro that he will add more,” Cascarino told TalkSport.

“I think Arsenal are going in a certain direction and a type of player and he ticks a lot of them boxes. I think Arteta is making that shrewd signing of a great pro coming to your club, which is the complete opposite of Ozil going out because I don’t think he is a great pro.

“I think he is a naturally fit athlete, I think he could easily do two years and he might even do his third.

On who should be worried about Willian’s arrival: “Pepe if he is on the right, which he normally plays and Pepe is a young lad. Hopefully, he will learn from Willian and some of the things he doesn’t do as well.

“Pepe’s got incredible trickery. He will go at players and he will sometimes commit and go past them. But it’s competition.”

Arsenal don’t have much to lose in their signing of Willian, other than the fact that he’s adding more pounds to their wage bill.

But it makes their attack that more dangerous and it allows the likes of Bukayo Saka and Pepe to learn from the experienced winger.

Not only that, when it comes to those big matches, Willian likes to step up and score goals and Arsenal fans will be hoping he brings those qualities with him to the Emirates Stadium.
