Issa Diop and Jack Wilshere joined West Ham United in the summer of 2018.
The former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker believes that Diop has been one of the best signings for West Ham for a long time.
Cascarino has also given his take on West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere, suggesting that the former Arsenal star needs to play to show his importance to manager Manuel Pellegrini by staying fit.
Cascarino said about Diop on the Weekend Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT (9:14am, May 11, 2019): “I just looked at Diop and thought what a great centre-half they have brought in. I think he has been one of their best signings for a long time.”
Cascarino said about Wilshere on the Weekend Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT (9:42am, May 11, 2019): “We all know that he is a talent, we all know that he has got a fabulous footballing brain, passing.
“Jack has to play games. It’s no good having a player that can play 10 games a season, it’s no good to a Premier League manager.”
Quality signing
Diop has been superb for West Ham this season and has been one of the best young central defenders in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old Frenchman joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £22 million.
According to WhoScored, the French youngster scored one goal in 33 Premier League appearances, and has also played twice in the FA Cup and three times in the EFL Cup for the Hammers.
As for Wilshere, the England international midfielder has had injury concerns again this campaign and has not had a massive impact at the London Stadium.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Hammers in the summer of 2018 after leaving Arsenal, made four starts and four substitute appearances in the league for West Ham, providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.
