West Ham United currently sit 18th in the Premier League after a woeful start to their season.
Tony Cascarino
Sky Sports pundit Tony Cascarino has offered his opinion on the possible cause of West Ham’s problems, when speaking live on Sky Sports Now at 10:13 am.
The Hammers slumped to their fifth Premier League defeat in six games yesterday, as they were out-fought, out-thought, and soundly beaten 3-0 by an impressive Southampton side.
Cascarino told Sky Sports that the success the club achieved last season has had an adverse effect on the players’ performances this term:
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic
“Success can pay a price with people. It’s human nature that we think we’re a little bit better. Sometimes their performance is up there and then they drop off. They just don’t do the things they did when they had a point to prove.”
The former Chelsea man does seem to have a point, with most of the Hammers’ top players failing to replicate the form they showed last season.
Their displays this term have been symptomatic of a team that has taken their previous success for granted.
West Ham United fans
The fact that many of their important first-team players are still out injured cannot be used as an excuse, and Slaven Bilic must try and find a way of injecting the enthusiasm, that was so prevalent last season, back into the side.
Next up for the Hammers is a vital home match against Middlesbrough on Saturday, in a game that is an absolute must-win for Bilic’s men.
