Southampton currently sit ninth in the Premier League table after back-to-back league wins.
Tony Cascarino during his Aston Villa days
Tony Cascarino was speaking live on Sky Sports Now this morning at 10:16 am, and discussed Southampton’s impressive 3-0 win at West Ham United yesterday.
The Saints continued their fine run of form, and recorded their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions.
Cascarino highlighted the presence of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk as a key contributing factor to their resurgence in form, telling Sky Sports:
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk in action
“Virgil van Dijk – he’s a Rolls Royce of a footballer for a centre-half, I really enjoy watching him.”
The towering defender was superb for the Saints yesterday, and has become one of the most important players in Claude Puel’s side.
The £11.5 million that Southampton paid to Celtic to secure his services last summer now looks like a bargain, and there will surely be a clamour for his signature if he continues to put in performances like he has done so far this season.

The 25-year-old has played every minute of every Premier League game for the South Coast outfit this term, and his importance to the team is highlighted by their impressive run of four consecutive clean sheets.
Next up for Southampton is a trip to Israel to take on Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Europa League on Thursday night, before they travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
