Former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino has claimed in his Times column that no other Premier League player has shown as much improvement as Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min.

Son, 25, scored Spurs’ only goal of Wednesday night as the north Londoners crashed out of the Champions League following a 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie.

Goals from Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain saw Juventus progress 4-3 on aggregate, with Son continuing to impress despite Mauricio Pochettino’s men suffering defeat at the hands of the Italian champions.

Cascarino compared the South Korea international to Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, stating that he has not seen another Premier League player show the kind of improvement Son has this season.

“The likes of the Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool talisman, have rightly been lauded this season but I am struggling to think of a player who has improved as much as Son Heung-min,” Cascarino said.

“The Tottenham Hotspur forward has advanced a country mile from where he was 18 months ago. He was in and out of the team, yet now he is not only a regular starter, but also one of Spurs’ best players.

“He has a knack of finding himself in scoring positions, though he could still improve his finishing a little despite his recent flurry of goals. There is more to come from him.”

Tottenham’s number seven Son has scored 16 goals this term in 42 league and cup encounters, as well as offering a creative spark in the final third with nine assists.

The Evening Standard have even reported that the former Bayer Leverkusen forward’s form is set to earn him a new contract, with only two seasons remaining on his £60,000-a-week deal.

But Son and the rest of the Tottenham squad will have to refocus their attention on the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League once again by finishing in the top four of the Premier League table, after being knocked out of the Champions League.
