Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has suggested to The Star that Joe Wildsmith will start against Leeds United this weekend.

Wednesday will take on Leeds at the Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship on Sunday afternoon.

Keiren Westwood is the first-choice goalkeeper at the Owls and has been on the books of the Yorkshire outfit since 2014.

According to The Star, the goalkeeper is still recovering from a rib injury he suffered against Cardiff City two weeks ago.

Wildsmith featured for Wednesday in the Championship game against Birmingham City in midweek.

Wednesday manager Carvalhal has suggested that the 21-year-old goalkeeper will retain his place in the team against Leeds, with Westwood still recovering.

“We believe a lot in Joe Wildsmith,” Carvalhal told The Star. “He did very well (against Birmingham). He gave the team a lot of confidence.

“Of course we would prefer to have Keiren Westwood with us because he is a fantastic goalkeeper but we have a young goalkeeper with fantastic ability.”

Wednesday are 14th in the Championship table at the moment with 13 points from 10 matches.

The Owls are not in good form at the moment, and they need to pick up all three points against Leeds.

The Whites’ recent performances and results have been disappointing, and Thomas Christiansen’s side will be determined to win at the Hillsborough Stadium.
