Carlos Carvalhal cannot get hold of Millwall target Jose Semedo to discuss a return to Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has admitted that despite trying to call Jose Semedo, he cannot get hold of the midfielder to discuss his future.

Semedo became a free agent at the end of June when his one-year contract with the Owls expired and the Sheffield Star reports that several of the players at Hillsborough have also tried to contact the Portuguese.

“I tried to call him one or two times and some colleagues also,” said Carvalhal. “He didn’t reply.

“In this period of his career, if he has the chance to do a very good contract I think it will be good to him.

“I understand that and I support him about that. At this moment, I don’t know what the situation is.”

Social media has been awash with pictures of Semedo on holiday with his good friend and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 32-year-old is thought to be attracting plenty of interest from other clubs and has been strongly linked with newly promoted Championship side Millwall.

Semedo has been with Wednesday for the past six years after joining on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic and has since made 167 appearances for the South Yorkshire club in all competitions.

However, the former Portugal Under-21 international has played just 27 games since Carvalhal was named boss in the summer of 2015, so whether that will play a part in his decision remains to be seen.
