The Tottenham Hotspur defender is currently on loan at Sheffield United.
In recent comments published by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that he is thinking about re-calling Cameron Carter-Vickers from his loan spell at Sheffield United, and that should really be a no-brainer for the North London club.
Spurs sent the young American to the Blades for their own benefit, giving the centre-back the chance to prove what he can do when played week in, week out and gaining valuable experience before heading back to Tottenham ready to compete for a first-team spot.
As much as Sheffield United have benefited from the 19-year-old’s emergence, they know Tottenham are – to all intents and purposes – doing them a favour and, as much as it could be argued the Blades are returning it in kind, Pochettino should be able to bring the player back whenever he deems fit, as laid out in initial agreement.
If Tottenham do not re-call Carter-Vickers now, with Toby Aldwerweireld’s injury problems set to keep him out for another eight weeks, then what is the point of improving the player with a stunt elsewhere only to overlook him when he is vital to the cause.
It seems clear that Tottenham’s summer signing Juan Foyth is not yet ready to feature regularly in the Premier League, but Carter-Vickers has proved his worth in the Championship and could take his fine form into the top flight.
Tottenham no doubt wanted Carter-Vickers to prove a point to them and, having done just that, it is time Spurs made that call.
