The 18-year-old defender took to Twitter after agreeing a new three-year contract at Tottenham.
Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers in action with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey
The new contract train just keeps rolling at White Hart Lane, and it is another young talent that has been rewarded by the Tottenham hierarchy, with Cameron Carter-Vickers signing improved terms tying him to Spurs until 2019, and going on to speak to the club website about the news.
Carter-Vickers, who made his debut recently in the comprehensive League Cup win over Gillingham, has long been thought of as a star in the making in North London. Having gone on the preseason tour this summer, the youngster has been on the bench in all but one of the club’s league and European fixtures this season, and it is clear Mauricio Pochettino rates him very highly.
“Obviously the new deal shows the manager has faith in me,” the defender told Spurs TV.
“I’ve been here since I was 10, working hard trying to get this stage. I want to push on more. Take that game up to another level.”
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen
The US youth international has some work to challenge Belgian pair Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, with Spurs boasting the best league defence in the league last season and so far this campaign. But Carter-Vickers only sees the positives of working with the first choice defenders.
“In my opinion we’ve got two of the best centre backs in the league here,” he said on the Belgians. “So to train with them every day and watch them play – I can only learn from them and it will make me better.
“I like them on the ball, they are always very calm, defensively they cover each other so well and they always look assured. They both give me advice and they’ve helped me a lot.”
The central defender, just 18-years-old, was also quick to tweet his delight at the deal, displaying the sort of attitude in his few words that has seemingly made him a favourite of manager Pochettino.
With that attitude it will now surely be only a matter of time until he makes his league and European debut.
