Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Redknapp has been discussing Fabinho after his shoddy start to the season.

The Brazilian has been one of Liverpool’s best and most consistent performers over the past five years, but his form has absolutely deserted him as of late.

The South American looks a beat behind at all times, and he’s constantly chasing the game where he used to be the most controlling and commanding force in the middle of the park.

Redknapp has noted that Fabinho isn’t himself at the moment, and he theorised that the defensive midfielder may well be carrying an injury right now.

Fabinho injured?

Redknapp theorised that the midfielder may not be fully fit.

“When I was watching Fabinho that was his role when he first came, but now he can’t get near anyone for whatever reason. Maybe it’s lots of games last year, maybe he’s carrying an injury, who knows what it is, but in that area, maybe that’s where Spurs can get some success,” Redknapp said.

Something isn’t right

Whether Fabinho is injured, fatigued or just simply lacking confidence, something isn’t right at the moment.

This is a player who has made a career out of being calm and composed, but right now he looks like he doesn’t really know what to do with himself whenever he’s on the pitch.

Sloppy in possession and slow to react without the ball, Fabinho genuinely looks a shadow of his former self.

Perhaps it doesn’t help that there’s the small matter of the World Cup on the horizon, and perhaps Fabinho is toning down his playstyle right now in order to save himself for Qatar.

One thing is for sure, Fabinho needs to buck his ideas up in the coming weeks, because right now, he’s looking lost on the pitch.
