Jamie Carragher has suggested that he thinks Mohamed Salah has missed his chance to leave Liverpool now on Monday Night Football, which was broadcast by Sky Sports.
Salah has often been linked with a move away from Anfield throughout his time at the club, with Real Madrid and Barcelona thought to be the most likely candidates to sign him.
However, Madrid and Barca’s standards have dipped in recent years now, and Carragher doesn’t think that they have the same pulling power as they once did.
The Liverpool legend also believes that Salah may have reached an age where he has become a less appealing prospect for any club to sign.
“I don’t think that’s a debate as much now as it was a few years ago,” he said, when asked about the £44 million man’s future.
“I just think it’s past now. The Spanish clubs have fallen so far. I don’t think it’s too much of a problem.
“Real Madrid spent a lot of money on Hazard when he was 28, 29 and Salah is getting to that age now. I think it’s just a year or two too late.
“If he did go and I don’t see it, it would be a massive blow to Liverpool.”
If Salah is to stay with Liverpool then the club will need to sort his contract sooner rather than later.
Salah has just over two years remaining on his current deal, and while the concern is not too pressing at the moment, the Reds will surely want to tie their attacker’s future down sooner rather than later.
Liverpool can ill-afford to let Salah’s contract run into the final year, as they have Georginio Wijnaldum this season, as it could then be an uphill struggle to keep hold of him.
If Liverpool could get Salah to pen a new deal it would be a major boost for the club, as the Egyptian has hit 13 goals in as many Premier League games this season.
