Jamie Carragher suggested on Sky Sports during their live coverage of Everton’s win at Liverpool on Saturday that Carlo Ancelotti decided after 43 minutes that he was going to substitute Andre Gomes in the second half.
The Everton midfielder picked up a yellow card just before the break, and before the hour could chime on the clock, Ancelotti replaced Gomes with Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Little did Sigurdsson know that he was entering the scene to create history and help Everton record their first win at Anfield since 1999.
Nonetheless, this is what Carragher had to say about Gomes when on commentary for Sky over the weekend.
“I just looked down at the Everton manager and as soon as that foul was made, they looked straight to his bench,” said Carragher.
“It’s maybe something he needs to think about at half-time – I think that’s the obvious one.”

Whilst Everton will be on the highs of all highs after that victory at Anfield, they know they cannot get ahead of themselves yet.
The job Ancelotti has done at Goodison Park is a magnificent one and he is currently guiding Everton back to Europe.
From the perspective of those on Merseyside, it only bodes well for their rivalry and competition because some serious battles might end up taking place during these forthcoming seasons.
