Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports, during Monday Night Football, that Southampton striker Danny Ings is better than any of Liverpool’s reserve forwards.
Ings scored a brilliant goal as Southampton beat Liverpool 1-0 last night.
The striker, who was sold by Jurgen Klopp two years ago, proved his worth to his former employers with an excellent display.
And Carragher suggested that Ings is a superior player to the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino, who Liverpool had on the bench last night.
“He just couldn’t find his way in. He’s better than what Liverpool had on the bench tonight, though,” Carragher said.
“Southampton are not lucky to have him, he was a big signing before he came in. But he is just outside the elite goalscorers, he is almost the next one.”
Paul Ince agreed with Carragher’s statement, and actually claimed that Liverpool may not have lost if Ings was still in their squad.

“I feel like if he had been on Liverpool’s bench tonight, with the way they started the second half, Liverpool wouldn’t have lost the game tonight,” Ince said.
Whether Liverpool actually regret selling Ings now is up for debate.
Although the striker has developed into one of the most prolific forwards in the country, he has done so as he has been offered regular game time at Southampton.
Ings would likely have continued to play a reserve role at Liverpool, and he may not have been able to show what a quality player he is if he had stuck around at Anfield.
