Speaking to Optus Sports, Jamie Carragher has been speaking about Liverpool and the depth Jurgen Klopp has in his squad.
Before the season started, many predicted that the Reds would once again be embroiled in a title race, but it was pointed out that the African Cup of Nations could ruin their season.
It was a fair point to make, AFCON saw three of Liverpool’s key players head off on international duty for a month, but despite losing some key components in their side, they came through early 2020 unscathed.
Carragher believes that this is because the Reds’ squad depth is a lot better than people think, stating that everyone is always questioning the squad.
What’s been said?
Carragher gave his view on Liverpool’s depth.
“No it hasn’t been, and people always question Liverpool’s squad and they say ‘do they have the numbers? Do they have the backup?’ And in some ways, they’ve proven a lot of people wrong without those two players and in that time they’ve brought in another attacker in Diaz, so the squad has been strengthened. I think Liverpool’s squad is actually a lot better than it’s given credit for,” Carragher said.

Improved
It would have been fair to question Liverpool’s depth a few seasons ago, but now, the idea that the Reds don’t have enough quality players is outdated.
The arrivals of the likes of Thiago, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott have changed everything, while Luis Diaz has also made the Reds much stronger and capable of rotation.
Liverpool now have the capability to battle on every front, and that’s why there’s talk of the Reds winning a quadruple this season.
