There aren’t any surprises in former Liverpool stars’ selection.

Former Liverpool stars Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp have named their all-time Premier League Liverpool XI to the Mirror.

The Reds have boasted several impressive squads over the years in the Premier League, although they are yet to win the title since its inception.

The current group that Jurgen Klopp has assembled is up there among the best, while Rafa Benitez’s team that ran Manchester United close for the title was also among the best.

There is also a case to be made for the squad that went close under Brendan Rodgers, although that was arguably built on the powers of Luis Suarez more than a group of talented players.

Carragher and Redknapp both played in the Premier League era, so who do they think makes it into the Reds best ever line up? Here’s the team they picked for the Mirror.

Pepe Reina is selected in goal in arguably the easiest choice that the duo had to make.

Rob Jones is in at right back, while John Arne Riise is the chosen left back. Sami Hyypia and Carragher himself are the centre back pairing.

In central midfield, Steven Gerrard is an obvious choice, while there are few who would debate Xabi Alonso’s inclusion alongside him.

The choices of John Barnes on the left wing and Steve McManaman on the right are likely to be decisions that few would dispute either.

Up front, Robbie Fowler is partnered alongside Luis Suarez in what would have been a potent forward partnership, to say the least.

Three players unfortunate to miss out:

Javier Mascherano – The defensive midfielder established himself as one of the best in the Premier League during his time at Anfield, eventually earning a move to Barcelona.

Philippe Coutinho – The Brazilian has been a more recent star for the Reds, continuing to shine in recent year. He is starting to improve under Jurgen Klopp and is likely to play a key role in any future success.

Fernando Torres – He may have left for Chelsea in controversial circumstances but for a time the Spanish striker was among the world’s best thanks to his goalscoring prowess at Anfield.
