Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge has barely featured this season.
Former defender Jamie Carragher says he can understand the frustration regarding Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems and highlights how forward players treat niggles differently, the Daily Star reports.
The Liverpool forward has barely featured this season, and his latest attempts at making a recovery have taken another disappointing setback as he prolongs his spell on the side-lines.
Commenting on the situation, Carragher sees the frustration from both sides and admits while he or a player such as Dietmar Hamann would play through the pain barrier, forwards feel less inclined.
“It is not just Daniel, it happened sometimes with foreign players,” Carragher explained.
“I am not talking about them shirking but they feel if their body is not 100 per cent they are putting themselves at more risk of injury, or they are not going to perform to the level they would like to.”
“That is when a player like myself or Dietmar Hamann (who has been particularly critical of Sturridge), more defensive players, would carry on and just do it.”
“It must be frustrating for him, I understand that, but there is also frustration from Liverpool as a club and supporters because he has been injured so often.”
The 26-year-old has only made a handful of appearances for the Reds since picking up a long-term injury at the beginning of last season, and the situation is becoming rather vexing.
Liverpool supporters want to see him back in action, and questions over his commitment has prompted an apparent uneasiness from all parties involved as his future is now being placed in doubt.
The Mirror reported that Sturridge is considering a summer switch as he is said to be fed up of criticism heading his way, but after just three Premier League starts this term, it’s understandable.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is in need of a reliable goal scorer. Sturridge at present is proving anything but with his latest injury labelled as both a thigh and hamstring problem..
