A certain English defensive midfielder dubbed ‘the Yorkshire Pirlo’ is seemingly drawing the attention of Tottenham and Liverpool.
The Mirror has claimed that both Spurs and Liverpool are keen on Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and they are both ‘watching closely’ his rise into the Premier League.
Only last month, Jamie Carragher labelled the recently capped England international as a ‘revelation’ by telling Sky Sports (08/09/20 at 7:25 pm) that he has ‘a lot of attributes’ to play the holding role.
“I think he has been a revelation for Leeds,” Carragher told Sky Sports. ”Certainly more so since Bielsa came in and changed his role to this sitting midfield player.
“I think he has a lot of attributes that you need in the holding midfield position. To play at this level in terms of his passing range, getting on the ball and he also sees danger.
“That’s why his manager at club level wants him in that position.”

Before Phillips could take his first kick in the Premier League, he was making his England debut in the UEFA Nations League against Denmark.
He has since gone onto add a number of caps to his name and given the road he is going down, he’s sure to add more
It’s understandable why clubs such as Spurs and Liverpool would show interest in the boyhood Leeds fans. But it has to be questioned whether those on Merseyside actually need him.
Jurgen Klopp already has a thriving Fabinho on his books, with Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and the more attack-minded Thiago to also choose from as midfielders.

It could be argued that if Klopp loses Wijnaldum in the summer then he might want another pair of legs in the midfield, but both the Dutchman and the Yorkshireman are completely different players.
Phillips likes to sit in front of the defence and ping balls all over the shop – a quality which would suit Liverpool’s style. But it would have to take a lot to prize him away from Elland Road, and given that he wouldn’t be a starter, it has to be questioned if he’s worth signing.
As for Spurs, they have less quality in the middle of the park than the champions and Phillips would do wonders for a Mourinho side.
But once again, in this inflated transfer market, it would be a surprise to see a stubborn Daniel Levy put a serious amount of dough on the table for the Leeds man.
