Jamie Carragher has said that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho may regret qualifying for the Europa Legaue last season now.
While writing in the Telegraph, Carragher was discussing Tottenham’s title chances this term.
And the pundit claims that Tottenham’s success will likely be reliant on them avoiding injuries to key players.
“I see Spurs’ emergence this season as more like that of Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool in 2014,” he said.
“Avoiding injuries to the senior players was critical as – like Spurs in 2020 – the strength in depth was not there.
“Being outside of European competition helped keep everyone fit, and I suspect Jose wonders whether it would have been better of Spurs to have narrowly failed to make the Europa League at the end of last season.”

Tottenham have, to date, kept most their senior players fit – despite a busy schedule.
Mourinho actually celebrated Spurs qualifying for the Europa League heavily at Crystal Palace last season and the signs are that he is taking the competition very seriously.
Spurs have often named strong line-ups so far, and they have taken a commanding position in their group, despite a disappointing defeat at Antwerp.
Tottenham have also made encouraging progress in the Premier League so far this season and could move to the top of the table with a win over Manchester City tomorrow.
