Carragher claims manager top of Levy’s wishlist for Tottenham has done a ‘phenomenal’ job

Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that Tottenham-linked, Brendan Rodgers, has done a ‘phenomenal’ job at Leicester.

The TV pundit, who worked under Rodgers at Anfield, suggested that the job on Merseyside came too early for him, but he thinks he now has the experience to manage ‘any group of players’ in Europe.

Well, Rodgers’ work at the King Power Stadium hasn’t gone unnoticed at Tottenham, with 90Min claiming that Daniel Levy is willing to offer him a big-money contract to lure him to North London and he’s top of his wishlist.

With the Foxes heading towards Champions League football, and Spurs on that cusp of no Europe at all, it does bode the question as to why Rodgers would leave his current job.

But Carragher thinks the ex-Celtic man has ‘gone under the radar’ at the King Power after his trophy-laden years in Glasgow.

“I think he’s the best British manager,” said Carragher. “I spoke about Mikel Arteta taking a big job early. Frank Lampard taking a big job early. You are always wary, are they ready?

“You could almost put that at Brendan when he got that Liverpool job. But right now, you think about the experiences that he has had – he is so experienced now, in terms of winning trophies also at Celtic, where I think Rodgers will (now) be confident enough in managing any group of players.

“I mean that in European football. I don’t think he would have any qualms on the training pitch and really believe in what he’s done because of the experiences that he’s had.

“I think it goes under the radar with what he’s done at Leicester. It’s phenomenal the job he has done. It really is.”

It’s going to take something special to lure Rodgers Tottenham’s way, and if it does happen, then it would be a bit of a surprise.

Ironically enough, the Foxes are on the same path Mauricio Pochettino was on during his early years, so it’s unlikely he will jump ship given where Leicester are headed.

Plus, this Tottenham team does need refurbishing, but it has to be questioned whether Levy is willing to put serious money on the table to offer the much-needed freshness and progression this now-faltering side needs.
